铁路危险货物运输铁路办理易燃、易爆炸、有腐蚀性、有毒、有放射性及易于分解放氧等货物的运输。危险货物在运输过程中要分别按其特性妥善防护管理，以免伤害人员或损坏物资、设备。中国铁路部门于19统一制定了货车装运危险货物特别分类表，将危险货物分为爆炸品及军火、易着火的流质品、危险腐蚀并有毒性的化学品、各项杂品等四类，并对允许装运的危险货物规定了包装要求和不得与他种货物混装的限制，但没有提出其他运输防护条件。在1955年中国铁路才统一制定和颁布了内容比较完善的《危险货物运送规则》。危险货物分类 为了便于管理和安全运输，危险货物通常按其特性分为爆炸品、氧化剂、压缩液化或加压溶解的气体、自燃物质、遇水放出易燃气体的物质、易燃固体、易燃液体、毒害性物质、腐蚀性物质和放射性物质10类。各类危险货物都有其品名表，表内逐个列载了常运危险货物的品名、特性、分类、编号以及应使用的包装、标志和配装注意事项。品名表内未列载的危险货物，除主管部门特许者外，一律不予承运。凡要添加稳定剂抑制物质爆炸、聚合的危险货物，稳定剂达到规定含量方可运输。包装和标志 危险货物应妥善包装，以防接触其他物质和改变货物所处的条件，使货物处于完整和相对稳定状态。包装、容器应根据危险货物的性质、状态选用适应材质和形式，其强度要与盛装物压力、温度的变化相适应，不致在正常运输时破裂流撒。容器和衬垫材料接触内容物不应软化、发脆、变质和失效。试制的包装和容器须经盛装危险货物长时期静置检验后，再根据需要进行堆积、渗漏、耐压、跌落、喷水等试验，确认合格，并经主管部门批准后才能制造使用。包件上除作货物名称等标记外，还要有鲜明的危险货物标志和对储运应行注意的指示标志。防护和管理 铁路运输危险货物要严格办理托运手续，认真防护和管理。货物运单和运送票据应标明危险货物的类项。承运要检查包件的包装方法和限制重量。装卸要轻拿轻放，堆码稳固。相互作用能引起化学反应的物品，不得混放。遇有货物撒漏要及时收集处理，不留残渣。装有危险货物的车辆必须按规定与机车、守车和乘坐旅客的车辆隔离。对装有爆炸品、气体及易燃液体等物品的车辆不得溜放调车或自驼峰上溜下。挂有装载危险货物的列车起动、停车、变速要注意操纵平稳。本务机车（牵引车列的机车）和调车机车还必须有良好的火星网装置。为保证危险货物安全运输，需备有专门的仓库设备。危险货物专门仓库与居民点、公共建筑物要保持一定的安全距离，并设置防雷、消防、通风等安全装置，还应有较高的耐火等级，一旦发生事故，可把危害缩减到最小程度。装载爆炸品、气体的车辆需长时间在站停留时，应有固定的线路停放。办理危险货物运输的人员，要经慎重挑选和接受专业知识训练，在熟悉危险货物性能和运输规章并考试合格后方能任用。目前各国对危险货物的分类、包装、标志及安全防护措施的规定都不尽相同。1956年联合国运输专家委员会曾建议制定国际间各种运输方式的统一的危险货物运输规章，其后又对此建议的规章内容作了多次修改和补充，但迄今尚未正式制定。
