衰减振动衰减振动attenuationvibration系统受初扰动后不再受外界激励，因受到阻力造成能量损失而位移峰值渐减的振动。又称阻尼振动。例如带阻尼器的弹簧质量系统，其质量为m，弹簧刚度为k，阻尼系数为c，在回复力和阻力作用下作衰减振动的运动微分方程为，式中为无阻尼自由振动的角频率；ζ＝c/(2mωn)为阻尼率。若阻尼较小(ζ＜1)，则振动方程的解为，式中A和j为初始条件确定的常量。严格地说，衰减振动不是周期运动，因其位移峰值按时间的指数规律衰减。但习惯上，仍将同侧相继两位移峰值间的时间间隔称为“周期”，记为Td；相应的称为“角频率”，记为ωd。因此，，即衰减振动通过同侧两相邻的位移峰值所经历的时间大于无阻尼时的周期。通常用对数减幅率δ来量度位移峰值衰减的快慢。其定义是同侧相继两位移峰值之比的自然对数，即。当ζ很小时，阻尼对振动频率影响很小，但使其位移峰值衰减很快。若阻尼较大（ζ≥1），则振动方程的解为：；(ζ＞1)。这时，运动不再是振动，在任何初始条件下，位移最多有一次达到峰值，以后就是无限趋近于平衡位置的衰减运动。通常把ζ＞1的情况称为过阻尼；把ζ＝1的情况称为临界阻尼，即阻尼的大小刚好使系统作非“周期”运动。与阻尼较小的情况和过阻尼情况相比，在临界阻尼情况下，系统从运动趋近平衡所需的时间最短。在电气仪表中常利用过阻尼或临界阻尼抑制指针振动。
