马边彝族自治县马边彝族自治县马边彝族自治县位于四川盆地西南边缘小凉山区，地处乐山﹑宜宾﹑凉山三市州结合部，全县幅员面积2383平方公里，总人口17.3万人，彝族占37％。马边资源丰富，开发前景广阔，是乐山亟待开发的处女地，是乐山跨越式发展的后劲所在。有磷﹑铅锌﹑铜等多种矿产资源，其中磷矿储量24.8亿吨，列全国八大磷矿第四位，是乐山市磷化工基地。水能资源可开发32万千瓦，是乐山市两河流域开发的重点区域。境内旅游资源得天独厚，开发潜能巨大。有“养在深闺人未识”的马边大风顶国家级自然保护区﹑黄莲山万亩人工林和石梁大佛（宋代）﹑明王寺（明代）﹑荣丁东皇殿及佛殿（明代）3个市级文物保护单位，还有不少可供漂流的河段。其中马边大风顶国家自然保护区总面积3万公顷，主要保护大熊猫﹑金丝猴﹑珙桐﹑水青树等珍稀动植物及其栖息地，保护区内具有典型的亚热带山地常绿阔叶林至高山草甸森林生态系统，主峰海拔4042米，海拔3000米以上山峰43个。目前，大风顶国家级自然保护已被乐山市列为乐山大佛﹑峨眉山﹑黑竹沟四大旅游景点之一。全县有林地面积130万亩，森林覆盖率40.8％,盛产茶叶﹑竹笋﹑酸梅﹑中药材等。绿茶历史悠久，享誉川内外，“白岩迎春”﹑“龙湖雪梅”﹑“永山玉叶”等多次荣获中国西部名茶“陆羽杯”﹑“甘露杯”金奖；竹笋被誉为小山珍，已有清水笋等系列产品，畅销国内外；酸梅富含柠檬酸﹑氨基酸和维生素C等多种营养成份，已销往宜宾五粮液酒厂，成为“青梅果酒”的原料。药用植物1619种，是全省中药材基地，目前大宗出产的中药材乌梅﹑天麻﹑黄莲﹑黄柏等。
