生活服务设施在城市规划中指设置在居住区内主要为满足本居住区居民日常生活需要的各项公共建筑和设施。生活服务设施的内容因各地居民的政治、经济、社会、宗教、文化和风俗习惯等方面的差异而有所不同。20世纪80年代初中国城市居住区生活服务设施一般分为七类:教育、文体、卫生、商业、饮食、服务和行政经济管理。在居住区详细规划中，生活服务设施的项目一般分为居住区级和居住小区级两个等级。其具体项目属于居住小区（包括住宅组团）级的有：托儿所、 幼儿园、 小学、中学、医疗站、青少年活动站、老年活动室、粮店、菜店、副食店、百货店、饮食店、煤铺、 理发店、 修理门市部、自行车存车处、邮电所、储蓄所、居民委员会、房屋管理养护所、变电所、物资回收站等；属于居住区级的有：门诊所、医院、银行办事处、邮电支局、电影院、文化馆、青少年之家、老人文娱场所、综合食品店、菜市场、副食商店、中西药房、书店、 百货商店、 日用杂品店、饭店、旅馆、照相馆、理发馆、浴室、洗染店、综合修理部、街道办事处、粮油管理所、房屋管理所、公安派出所、婚姻介绍所等。此外，有些居住区内还应有热力点、煤气调压站和高压水泵站等设施。生活服务设施的布置要便于居民使用，符合居民生活习惯,并要考虑设施的服务性质和本身的合理规模,采取集中与分散相结合的布置方式。居住人口在 3万人以上并有城市道路在内部穿行的居住区，其生活服务设施一般可分为三级布置：居住区级、居住小区级和住宅组团级。其服务半径大体上分别在 500米、300米和150米以内。规模较小的居住区或居住小区可按居住区（或居住小区）和住宅组团两级布置。规模较大的居住区也可按中心、辅助中心和基层点的方式布置。居住区级的商业、饮食、服务、文体和管理等设施，可相对集中地布置在一起，形成居住区中心，并有各自的风格，以丰富城市景观。
