标准参考物质指某些具有确定含量的组分，在实际样品定量测定中用作计算被测组分含量的直接或间接的参照标准的一类物质。确定这类物质中的指定组分含量的标准值，须选用若干种可靠的方法，由一定数量的技术熟练的分析人员独立地仔细地进行化学分析，再由相互协同工作的分析人员将测得值集中起来加以数学分析，并用数理统计方法进行处理（见分析数据的统计处理），最后由参加人员作出评定，得出标准值。标准参考物质除用作含量测定的标准外，也常用来发现在分析标准物本身或分析组成与标准参考物质大致相似的试样时所产生的个人误差、操作误差以及某些方法误差等。此外，在研究确定某种新的方法的准确度时，也常应用标准参考物质。分类 标准参考物质的分类和编号，各国有不同的规定，例如中国生产的某些矿石、精矿等的标准参考物质的名称、编号及其组分含量见表。到1978年为止，美国国家标准局有各种钢铁、合金、矿石、耐火材料和有机化合物等的标准物质约九百多种。美国橡树岭国家实验室制备和生产高纯度的金属和各种无机化合物(纯度通常达6N，即六个9的等级)标准约100种。英国分析样品局和日本标准试样委员会等也都专门从事制备和生产各种无机物质、钢铁、合金、纯金属、矿石及耐火材料等标准物质。迄今为止，标准参考物质的生产、管理和应用尚无统一的国际规范。许多国际会议讨论了有关标准参考物质的定义、范围及其经济意义。1979年11月联邦德国的联邦材料检验局在西柏林召开了标准参考物质的生产和应用问题讨论会，交流了目前最常用的六个方面（冶金、无机物和无机材料、物理和物理化学性质、物质和工艺性质、粒子和放射性、临床和有机物）标准参考物质的理论和实际问题。可以预见，标准参考物质的制备和应用的研究工作仍将不断深入，是现代科学技术发展的必不可少的环节。参考书目I.M.Kolthoff,Treatise on Analytical Chemistry,Vol.1, John Wiley & Sons, New York, 1978.
