低温压力容器工作时壁温在-20℃以下的压力容器。液化乙烯、液化天然气、液氮和液氢等的储存和运输用容器均属低温压力容器。一般压力容器常用的铁素体钢在温度降低到某一温度时,钢的韧性将急剧下降,而显得很脆,通常称这一温度为脆性转变温度。压力容器在低于转变温度的条件下使用时,容器中如存在因缺陷、残余应力、应力集中等因素引起的较高局部应力,容器就可能在没有出现明显塑性变形的情况下发生脆性破裂而酿成灾难性事故。对于低温压力容器首先要选用合适的材料,这些材料在使用温度下应具有良好的韧性。经细化晶粒处理的低合金钢可用到-45℃,2.5%镍钢可用到-60℃,3.5%镍钢可用到-104℃,9%镍钢可用到-196℃。低于-196℃时可选用奥氏体不锈钢和铝合金等。为了避免在低温压力容器上产生过高的局部应力,在设计容器时应避免有过高的应力集中和附加应力;在制造容器时应严格检验,以防止容器中存在危险的缺陷。对于因焊接而引起的过大残余应力,应在焊后进行消除焊接残余应力处理。
