磨损试验测定材料抵抗磨损能力的一种材料试验。通过这种试验可以比较材料的耐磨性优劣。磨损试验比常规的材料试验要复杂。首先需要考虑零部件的具体工作条件并确定磨损形式，然后选定合适的试验方法，以便使试验结果与实际结果较为吻合。磨损形式有磨料磨损、粘着磨损、接触疲劳磨损、微动磨损、气蚀等。然而在实际运转条件下往往不止出现一种磨损形式，例如大功率柴油机轴瓦可能同时出现粘着磨损和气蚀。与其他试验相比，磨损试验受载荷、速度、温度、周围介质、表面粗糙度、润滑和偶合材料等因素的影响更大。试验条件应尽可能与实际条件一致,才能保证试验结果的可靠性。磨损试验种类 磨损试验分为现场磨损试验和实验室磨损试验。现场磨损试验是将做成零件的试样装在机器上，在实际运转条件下进行试验。而实验室磨损试验是在实验室中的磨损试验机上进行，它又分为试样磨损试验和台架磨损试验。①试样磨损试验：用加工成一定形状和尺寸的试样进行试验。②台架磨损试验：用零件或近似零件的试样在模拟实际运转条件的台架上进行试验。磨损试验机 按运动方式可分为滑动和滚动两类。按介质不同可分为干摩擦、有润滑、有磨料的3类。按试样接触形式（见图）可分为5类:①平面与平面；②平面与圆柱；③圆柱与圆柱；④平面与球；⑤球与球等。磨损试验机还按相对运动方向分为单方向运动和往复运动两类，也可按摩擦轨迹分为新生面摩擦和重复摩擦两种不同型式。磨损量测量 磨损量可用试验前后的试样长度、体积、重量等的变化来表示。磨损量测量的方法有：测长法、测重法、人工基准法（刻痕法、压痕法、磨痕法）、化学分析法和放射性同位素法等。磨损试验时，经常指定某材料作为对比材料，然后在同样条件下将被测材料与它进行对比试验。试验结果用相对耐磨性系数或磨损系数表示。 磨损系数则为相对耐磨性系数的倒数。
